Idi Amin, the former President of Uganda, became notorious for his brutal and oppressive regime, which lasted from 1971 to 1979. In his quest for power and dominance, Amin embarked on several military campaigns, one of which involved the invasion of Tanzania in 1978.

Tanzania also received support from the Ugandan exiles, who joined the fight against Amin's regime. In April 1979, Tanzanian forces, along with the Ugandan exiles, successfully captured the Ugandan capital, Kampala, effectively ending Amin's brutal rule. Amin fled into exile, and his regime collapsed soon after.
