Who led the children of Israel out of Egypt?
The answer to this question lies in one of the most prominent stories in the Bible - the Exodus. According to the biblical account, Moses was the leader chosen by God to lead the children of Israel out of Egypt and towards their promised land.
Moses was born during a time when the pharaoh of Egypt had ordered the killing of all Hebrew male babies. However, Moses' mother saved him by placing him in a basket and sending him down the Nile River. He was discovered by the pharaoh's daughter and raised as her own son in the palace.
As Moses grew older, he became aware of his Hebrew heritage and witnessed the harsh treatment of his people. One day, he witnessed an Egyptian beating a Hebrew slave and, in a fit of anger, killed the Egyptian. Fearing punishment, Moses fled Egypt and settled in the land of Midian.
During his time in Midian, Moses encountered a burning bush that was not consumed by the flames. God spoke to him from the bush, commanding him to return to Egypt and lead the Hebrews out of bondage. Reluctantly, Moses accepted the task and returned to Egypt, demanding that the pharaoh let his people go.
Pharaoh, however, refused to release the Israelites, prompting God to send a series of ten plagues upon Egypt. These plagues included turning the Nile River into blood, infestations of frogs and locusts, and the death of the firstborn sons. After the final plague, Pharaoh finally relented and allowed the Israelites to leave.
Under Moses' guidance, the Israelites embarked on a journey through the wilderness towards the land of Canaan. Despite facing numerous challenges and hardships, Moses led the people for forty years until they reached the outskirts of the promised land. However, due to his disobedience, Moses was not allowed to enter the land, and he died on Mount Nebo.
Moses' leadership and his role in leading the children of Israel out of Egypt have made him one of the most revered figures in religious history.
