Have you ever wondered where cornflakes were invented? Well, you may be surprised to learn that they were actually invented by accident in Battle Creek, Michigan. In the late 19th century, Dr. John Harvey Kellogg and his brother Will Keith Kellogg were experimenting with different ways to prepare grains for their patients at the Battle Creek Sanitarium, a health retreat they ran.

One day, they accidentally left some cooked wheat sitting out and it went stale. Rather than waste it, they decided to put it through a roller to see what would happen. To their surprise, instead of getting sheets of dough as they expected, they got flakes. They then tried the same process with corn and created the first cornflakes.

The Kellogg brothers patented their invention in 1896 and the rest is history. Cornflakes quickly became a popular breakfast cereal and are still enjoyed by millions of people around the world today.

So, if you've ever wondered where cornflakes were invented, now you know. Next time you pour yourself a bowl of this classic breakfast cereal, you can think of Dr. John Harvey Kellogg and his accidental invention in Battle Creek, Michigan.
