In a game of Gin Rummy, each player is dealt a total of ten cards. The game is typically played with two players, although it can also be played with three or four players. The dealer shuffles the deck of cards and then deals ten cards to each player, one at a time. The remaining cards are placed in the center of the table to form the draw pile.
After the cards have been dealt, the players take turns drawing a card from the draw pile or the discard pile and then discarding a card from their hand. The goal of the game is to form sets and runs of cards in your hand, with the ultimate objective being to "go gin" by getting rid of all of your cards in one turn.
Each player starts their turn by drawing a card, either from the draw pile or the discard pile. They then have the option to form sets or runs with the cards in their hand. A set is a group of three or four cards of the same rank, while a run is a group of three or more consecutive cards of the same suit.
Once a player has formed sets and runs in their hand, they can "knock" on their turn by placing their remaining cards face down on the table. The other player then has the opportunity to lay off any of their remaining cards on the knocking player's sets and runs. If the non-knocking player is able to lay off all of their cards, they win the round. If not, the knocking player wins the round.
Gin Rummy is a classic card game that requires skill, strategy, and a bit of luck. With ten cards being dealt to each player at the beginning of the game, there are plenty of opportunities to form winning combinations and outsmart your opponent. So gather your friends and family, shuffle up a deck of cards, and see who can come out on top in a game of Gin Rummy!
