In Egyptian mythology, the god of the underworld is Osiris.

Osiris is one of the most important and revered gods in ancient Egyptian religion. He is known as the god of the afterlife, resurrection, and fertility. As the ruler of the underworld, he holds the power to judge the souls of the deceased and determine their fate in the afterlife.

Osiris is often depicted as a mummified pharaoh wearing the Atef crown, which is adorned with ostrich feathers and a sun disk. This symbolizes his role as the king of the underworld and his association with the sun god, Ra.

According to Egyptian mythology, Osiris was murdered by his brother Seth, who was jealous of his power and popularity. Seth dismembered Osiris' body and scattered the pieces across Egypt. However, Osiris' wife, Isis, managed to find and reassemble his body, restoring him to life temporarily.

Osiris then became the ruler of the underworld, where he presides over the judgment of souls. In the afterlife, he weighs the hearts of the deceased against the feather of Ma'at, the goddess of truth and justice. If the heart is found to be pure and lighter than the feather, the soul is granted eternal life in the Field of Reeds. If the heart is heavy with sin, it is devoured by Ammit, a fearsome creature with the head of a crocodile, the body of a lion, and the hindquarters of a hippopotamus.

Worship of Osiris was widespread in ancient Egypt, and he was considered the ultimate judge and protector of the deceased. Many pharaohs identified themselves with Osiris, hoping to attain a similar afterlife. The cult of Osiris also played a significant role in the annual flooding of the Nile, as Osiris was associated with fertility and rebirth.

In conclusion, Osiris is the god of the underworld in Egyptian mythology. His role as the judge of souls and ruler of the afterlife has made him one of the most significant and revered deities in ancient Egypt.
