In Greek mythology, Achilles is known as the mighty hero of the Trojan War. He was born to the sea nymph Thetis and the mortal king Peleus. Thetis was a beautiful and powerful creature of the sea, and Peleus was a brave and respected ruler.

Thetis, a Nereid, was one of the fifty daughters of the sea god Nereus. She possessed the ability to shape-shift and had the power to control the waves. Thetis was desired by many gods and mortals, but an oracle warned them that her son would be greater than his father. This scared off many suitors, until Zeus himself arranged her marriage to Peleus.

Peleus was the son of Aeacus, the king of the island of Aegina. He was a great warrior and a descendant of the legendary hero Heracles. Zeus, the king of the gods, was fond of Peleus and even attended his wedding to Thetis. The wedding was a grand affair, and all the gods and goddesses were invited, except for Eris, the goddess of discord.

Although Achilles was born to such illustrious parents, his life was not without challenges. Thetis, knowing that her son had a great destiny, wanted to make him invincible. She dipped him into the river Styx, which had the power to make him invulnerable, except for his heel, where she held him. This is how the term "Achilles' heel" came to be, representing a person's vulnerability or weak point.

Achilles grew up to become a formidable warrior, known for his strength, bravery, and speed. He played a crucial role in the Trojan War and was the greatest warrior among the Greeks. However, his life was cut short when he was struck in the heel by an arrow, fulfilling the prophecy of his mortality.

The story of Achilles and his heroic deeds continues to captivate audiences today. His parents, Thetis and Peleus, played significant roles in shaping his destiny and leaving a lasting legacy in Greek mythology.
