Guru Nanak, the revered spiritual leader, was the founder of Sikhism, a religion that originated in the Punjab region of India during the 15th century. His teachings and principles laid the foundation for Sikhism, which has since grown to become the world's fifth-largest organized religion.

Born in 1469 in Talwandi, now known as Nankana Sahib in Pakistan, Guru Nanak was deeply influenced by both Hindu and Islamic philosophies. He sought to bridge the gap between the two major religions of the time and create a path of spiritual enlightenment that transcended caste, creed, and societal divisions.

Guru Nanak's teachings emphasized the importance of a personal connection with the divine, emphasizing the concept of one God and the pursuit of a righteous and truthful way of life. He advocated for the equality of all human beings, irrespective of their gender, social status, or religious background.

His teachings were compiled in the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy scripture of Sikhism. This text, considered the eternal Guru of the Sikhs, contains hymns and poetic compositions composed by Guru Nanak and subsequent Sikh Gurus. It serves as a guide for Sikhs, providing spiritual wisdom and ethical guidance.

Sikhism, under Guru Nanak's leadership, grew steadily in popularity. He traveled extensively, spreading his message and engaging in philosophical discussions with scholars and religious leaders of various traditions. His teachings attracted a diverse following, and his followers, known as Sikhs, formed a close-knit community based on the principles of equality, selfless service, and devotion to God.

Today, Sikhism has a significant global presence, with the majority of its followers residing in Punjab, India. Sikh temples, called Gurdwaras, can be found across the world, serving as places of worship, community gatherings, and centers for charitable activities.

Guru Nanak's legacy as the founder of Sikhism remains strong, not only within the Sikh community but also among those who admire his teachings on equality, social justice, and spirituality. His profound impact continues to inspire millions of people to lead lives of compassion, humility, and devotion.
