Leon Trotsky, the Russian revolutionary and close ally of Lenin, was exiled three times during his tumultuous political career. He was eventually assassinated in Mexico, where he had sought refuge after being expelled from the Soviet Union. Trotsky's first exile came in 1905, when he was sent to Siberia for his involvement in the failed Russian Revolution of that year.
