After Winston Churchill stepped down as Prime Minister of England in 1955, he was succeeded by Sir Anthony Eden. Eden, who had previously served as Foreign Secretary under Churchill, took over as leader of the Conservative Party and Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
During his time in office, Eden faced a number of challenges, including the Suez Crisis in 1956, which ultimately led to his resignation. Despite his initial popularity, Eden's reputation was tarnished by his handling of the crisis, and he resigned from office in 1957.
Following Eden's resignation, Harold Macmillan took over as Prime Minister of England in 1957. Macmillan, who had previously served as Chancellor of the Exchequer under Eden, led the country through a period of economic growth and prosperity. He also played a key role in negotiating the UK's entry into the European Economic Community in 1973.
Macmillan's tenure as Prime Minister came to an end in 1963, when he resigned due to health reasons. He was succeeded by Sir Alec Douglas-Home, who served as Prime Minister for just under a year before losing the general election in 1964 to Harold Wilson of the Labour Party.
Wilson went on to serve as Prime Minister of England for two non-consecutive terms, from 1964 to 1970 and from 1974 to 1976. He implemented a number of social and economic reforms during his time in office, including the establishment of the Open University and the introduction of the Race Relations Act 1965.
