What Were Pterosaurs?

Pterosaurs were a group of flying reptiles that lived during the Mesozoic Era, alongside the dinosaurs. They were the first vertebrates to evolve powered flight, and they dominated the skies for over 160 million years.

These incredible creatures had a unique anatomy that allowed them to fly. Their wings were not made of feathers like birds, but rather a thin, leathery membrane of skin called the "patagium." This stretched from their elongated fourth finger to their body, creating a large wing surface.
